The Anker Soundcore Motion+, a controversial Bluetooth Speaker.



When you ask people about Motion+, people will either tell you they love it or they hate it. This is one of the most controversial speakers that capture the interest of music enthusiasts and reviewers. So, what is in this speaker that made this controversial?


First, let us start with its drivers. Motion+ is a stereo speaker with two woofers for bass and mid-range, two tweeters dedicated to the reproduction of high frequencies or the treble up to 40 kHz, and two passive radiators to help reproduce the bass down to 50 Hz. This is a powerful setup compared to the mono speaker.


There is an app you can use to adjust the sound output of this speaker, this has a different setting like, Default as Soundcore signature, Bass On, Voice Boost, Heavy Bass, Classic and Original/Flat.



But what makes this speaker desirable is its custom EQ which you can adjust for boosting or attenuating up or down to 6 dB. This custom EQ makes this monster a user-custom sounding speaker. There are many tuning released by popular speaker reviewers, different sound output, and signature, but most people do not understand how it is supposed to be tuned.


Tuning of the speaker will vary based on the listeners' preference and choice of music, just like on Itunes, there are preset EQ settings for rock, classic, R&B, and many more. This means that there is no one tuning that will fit everyone's preference.


Tuning is adjusting its current output to the desired shape or curve, but everyone must understand that these EQ may improve the sound but not exactly translate the output to that shape, because most of the speaker is not tuned flat.


When adjusting EQ, it is necessary to measure the actual sound output of the speaker and we will do this for you, then you can adjust the gain or attenuate base on the actual output to the desired level of each frequency. ROCK


Boosted bass and treble, recessed mid-range frequency for better sound stage and clarity. Also applicable to classical, jazz, R&B and many more.


Adjustments:

80 Hz = +3 dB

150 Hz = +3 dB (If you feel bass is too high or too low, adjust the gain here to your preferred level)

300 Hz = 0 dB

500 Hz = -3 dB

700 Hz = 0 dB

1 kHz = 0 dB

5 kHz = +4 dB

8 kHz= +6 dB

12 kHz= +6 dB



HARMAN TARGET CURVE


The Harman Curve is the optimal sound signature that most people prefer in their headphones, as discovered by Harman International.



Adjustments:

80 Hz = +6 dB

150 Hz = +3 dB

300 Hz = -1 dB

500 Hz = -2 dB

700 Hz = +1 dB

1 kHz = -1 dB

5 kHz = +0 dB

8 kHz= +1 dB

12 kHz= +2 dB




HARMAN TARGET CURVE (OE)


This curve is base on Harman products sound signature.



Adjustments:

80 Hz = +4 dB

150 Hz = +3 dB

300 Hz = -3 dB

500 Hz = -4 dB

700 Hz = 0 dB

1 kHz = -3 dB

5 kHz = +6 dB

8 kHz= +4 dB

12 kHz= +0 dB



POP


Mid-range frequencies and vocals are boosted, good for movies, pop music, podcast etc.


Adjustments:

80 Hz = -3 dB

150 Hz = +0 dB

300 Hz = -2

500 Hz = +1 dB

700 Hz = +1 dB

1 kHz = +3 dB

5 kHz = 0 dB

8 kHz= +2 dB

12 kHz= +1 dB






BASS BOOST


Boosted bass with balanced mids and treble. This is the tuning of JBL Charge 5.



Adjustments:

80 Hz = +6 dB

150 Hz = +6 dB

300 Hz = -1 dB

500 Hz = -3 dB

700 Hz = 0 dB

1 kHz = 0 dB

5 kHz = +1 dB

8 kHz= +1 dB

12 kHz= +6 dB



FLAT


Balance level at all frequencies, good for critical listening.



Adjustments:

80 Hz = 0 dB

150 Hz = 0 dB

300 Hz = -2 dB

500 Hz = -2 dB

700 Hz = 0 dB

1 kHz = 0 dB

5 kHz = +1 dB

8 kHz= +1 dB

12 kHz= +6 dB
